来自建筑事务所的描述：“TrueNorth”项目是由9个出租单元组成的住宅开发区，位于底特律市中心约2.5英里（约4公里）处。

Ithasreceivedinternationalattentionforpioneeringcreativeaffordabledesignattunedtobothitscontextandcommunity,aswellasforcatalyzingtheredevelopmentofalong-neglectedarea.

出于美学与经济方面的考虑，客户希望建筑师打造简易小屋的形式，并且采用预制轻型结构制作而成的圆形截面波纹镀锌钢材料。

Foraestheticandeconomicreasons,theclientchallengedEC3toutilizeQuonsetHuts,aprefabricatedlightweightstructureconsistingofcorrugatedgalvanizedsteelandhavingasemicircularcrosssection.

EdwinChan是位于洛杉矶的工作室EC3的创始人，同时也是盖里建筑事务所的合作伙伴，他说：“我们希望这个作品能够融合底特律的城市文脉和传统审美，打造出一个具有欢迎感的场所空间。”

EdwinChan,founderoftheLosAngeles-basedstudioEC3andformerdesignpartneratGehryPartners,commented:“WetriedtocapturethebeautyofDetroit’stoughnesswiththerawaestheticinitsdesign,whilecreatinganinvitingplacefortheneighborhood.”

建筑整体呈现开放的形态，没有设置多余的围栏，小屋的设计主要以开放和安全为原则，同时注重视野和隐私，结合社会功能，建筑师在其中至少设置了3条通向这些建筑的社区通道。

当人们进入社区，便可以直接来到8个不同的小屋之中，这里还有一个公共花园，30棵绿色植物，以及能够容纳8辆车的停车区域。

每座小屋的结构都设置于4英寸（约10厘米）的混凝土面板之上，面板内部设置有热辐射系统。墙体末端采用环绕着聚碳酸酯面板的定制钢结构框架，这大大提升了建筑的安全性能，也为室内提供了自然采光和一定的热辐射。

在室内设计方面，EC3建筑事务所与客户、开发商共同合作，采取了多种尺寸的单元布局，面积从475平方英尺（约44平方米）到1600平方英尺（约149平方米）不等，其中的空间布局也各具特色。大多数住宅单元还设置有厨房、浴室、储藏等基本空间。在其上方，还设计了一个夹层区域，可以用作卧室、工作或储藏空间。
